Things# 10

Well, I think that what will happen with this remains for me to see. It’s kind of like education, who knows how it will be used?

Certainly, I’m curious. And now that I’ve added the cc to my browser, I’ll see how it works.

I hope that it’ll open up a whole new world that’ ll be easy to explore and utilize.

Have you noticed the CC logo on any websites you visit? Did you wonder what it meant?

Never picked up on it though it must have been there.

Do you think CC will impact the way students learn and create projects? How?

I’m not sure how this will impact how students learn. I guess that when they create projects, they’ll develop a deeper sense of ownership and ethics because of using the cc link to each of their creations.

Do you use digital images, audio or video clips from the web in your teaching (or professional practice)?

I use them in my power point presentations that I develop for the topics I teach. Some are mine and others I get from the web.

Do you ever share content on the web?

I have never shared them but probably will begin to post them so they can have access to them.

Who owns your teaching materials?

I guess I do except for those images/videos I’ve taken from the web.

What are some potential negatives for using CC?

I guess remembering to use it each time I post something.

Things 8 – Stretch

Wikipedia- I like it. Easy  to find, follow. I am a trusting soul until something occurs that forces me not to be, then I have trouble believing. So far so good with Wikipedia for me.

I find it interesting that there are those interested in ammending the info on any page and I wonder if I’ll ever do that. So far, I’m wiling to let others to do it.

Things 8 Wiki Task 1

Elementary school. I’m not sure how I got here. I hope that this will unfold as is seems it has for them.

Very impressive list.

Seems like something I’ll do. I would like to have available all of what I do in class for those who are absent or need review. I’m concerned about their ability to do this since I feel so lost.

Again, an overwhelming a lot on input.

I think I did this better this time. Whew, I am slow at tech.

Now I really understand why the aged people don’t like change.

If I were in my teens, all of this would be getting absorbed like a sponge. There’s a lot of stuff up there to move around now to find what I need!

Thing # 2

Complete a blog post reflecting on your initial thoughts about Web 2.0 and its role in 21st Century teaching and learning. Consider the ways in which Web 2.0 tools might change (or have already changed) your professional practice. How might you be able to use these new tools to to engage today’s “digital learners?” Why would you want to? How might you be able to use these tools to support your own learning?

I like the idea of communication, especially ideas. So far, all of this has taken me many hours to figure out and I’m hoping that by me doing this now, I can learn how to distill the process down to smaller, doable steps because I don’t see my students spending their own time figuring it out nor do I trust all of them have continual access to the technology at home or at school so some might be left behind from the onset.

3. use these new tools to to engage today’s “digital learners? –

I have been using electronic media for 5 years, almost exclusively in the delivery of information. I avoid their use of it because:                                  – their limited access to it at school/home                                                                                                         – the variance of skills they bring to class

If those barriers were not in place, I would require they produce a blog a week of 125 words to reflect on their assignments and how the subject matter impacts their lives now or in the future  They could/should include at leats 1 piece of other into their blog i.e. picture, video, audio that enhances what they have written

4. Why would you want to? – Confidence building (survival skills). To me this is what education is ultimately for.

5. use these tools to support your own learning? – using tech tools should keep me current but I am concerned about the time commitment and how the process can lead to isolation of the learner, only “meeting”  others in cyber space. I like hard copy. Let’s really play. Are video games playing? Are they engaged in their own learning?  What life skills are they learning that doesn’t require tecnology (electricity)?

Well, they are learning that accomplishment is satisfying, that they can progress in their own learning, and that the skills they are gathering are marketable.

Things #1

The ride begins.the journey

Most challenging- using technology to my advantage seems to the the habit most difficult to master.There are so many new things to learn and use and not enough confidence that the sytem will support it soon enough before I forget how to use it and I will have to start from scratch again.

Easiest- all the rest. Going last to first:

7.5 Play – can’t exist by itself; has to have a balance with direction but play has to be unstructured and free from evaluation and be experimental at all points. (lots here to object to)

4. Confidence- I’ve gotten this far!

3. Problem solving- I figured that what (7) was at the age of 4 when a friend of mine needed some new shoes, so with less than $.10 in my pocket, we walked towards the nearest shoe store (3 mile away) and would have made it had too had we not been picked up by a do-gooder who called the police and brought us home. On an up note, Dad was sleeping, worked nights and Mom was at work, teaching!
